St. Thomas Hospital Malakkara
In the footprints of history “Aranmula Panchayath” is enshrined as the Holy Land and it is in this village where Malakkara is situated - a village on the banks of the river Pampa. And in this village 54 years ago a great man with a great vision to serve the needy started the hospital known as St. Thomas Hospital popularly called Malakkara Hospital by the villagers.
This ambitious visionary was Capt. Dr. A.K. Cherian the founder of this hospital whose dream was to provide quality health care to the un-reached.5 decades later Malakkara hospital is still keeping its dignity and reputation, due to its contribution in health care for the people of Central Travancore.The hospital has grown to a 150-bed well-equiped multi-speciality hospital.
This hospital has created a very good impression among the people of Central Travancore for the stepwise development it has achieved. The main reason for this hospital becoming an unforgettable name among the people of Central Travancore is that, the successors do not deviate from the aims and dreams of the founder.
At present there are 150 beds, 24 doctors including visiting consultants, with all major specialties (see page Departments and doctors) including 24hour Causality and Trauma Care. Super-speciality wing comprises of Orthopedics , Cardiology, Psychatry, Urology and Nephrology.
Major surgeries like Intraocular lens implantation for Cataract, Transurethral Prostate surgery for Prostate enlargement, Joint Replacement Surgeries in Orthopedics are carried out in this hospital.

The hospital is situated by the side of Mavelikkara- Kozhencherry road. The distance form Chengannur railway station and private bus stand is approximately 4 KM.Our hospital facilities comprises of international standards in Sterility in Operation Theater, Labor room, Intensive Care unit. Operation Theater is equipped with state of art instruments for surgeries, Monitors for Anesthesia. One is to one patient- Nursing care and round the clock doctor’s care is provided in all intensive care units.
